Built to work right through thick pads, laydowns, and nasty slop where standard topwaters would immediately snag.
As you can see, I love a good topwater bite! The swim frat is also excellent at being thrown in some nasty cover and because it is TPE it also floats on the surface. Another great, early morning search bait.
When I feel that I can't get a good bite on topwater lures, I will get a bait that I can still cover water with and produce a good bite. The Cheapskate is a great bait to do just that. The vibration in the water can really draw out some big fish. It also does really well through the grass, where many of the big bass will be this summer.
When I know there is current nearby and the fish are looking for that cooler water conveyor belt of food I will be sure to put a good spinnerbait in front of them as it mimics a small school of bait and usually triggers a bite. It can also do some damage on deep timber. Slow roll it over bass holding timber in deep water and wait for it to get hammered!
When the Cheapskate is not getting bit, the fish may want something a little less flashy. That's when I will turn to the swim jig. This bait also comes through thick cover really well. Pop it out of grass and off of structure and wait for a solid bite. Jigs catch bigs!
7. Neko rig combo
Finally, when the bass have shown me they are not interested in what I have presented them, I drop a worm on them. I like to use a Neko rigged worm with the nail weight placed in the front of the worm and the hook offset towards the front as well. I feel like I can usually get a bite when the fish are being really stubborn using this method. The BKK hook does really well maneuvering through grass and wood. Having the nail weight in the front will cause the floating worm to fall just right and keep it moving in a natural motion. Definiely a great way to get those lazy summer bass to eat!
